Reverse description Central round hole set within a raised lobed cartouche of scalloped form, surrounded by a background of seigaiha (overlapping wave scales) pattern filling the field. The legend 大日本 (Great Japan) is inscribed across the upper portion, while 大正五年 (Year 5 of the Taishō era) is distributed around the lower portion of the field, with individual kanji characters positioned at the cardinal and diagonal points flanking the central cartouche. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
