Obverse description Within a raised circular border, the field is divided by a diagonal cross motif into four quadrants. At the top, a stylized imperial chrysanthemum blossom is depicted in relief. The left and right quadrants bear the Japanese characters for 'Sen' and 'Five' respectively, denoting the denomination. The lower quadrant features a decorative floral or foliate device. The overall design is rendered in the characteristically low, flat relief typical of wartime Japanese porcelain trial pieces.
