Obverse description Central field features the Imperial chrysanthemum mon in relief, flanked symmetrically by stylized cloud formations rendered in low relief. The denomination 五 (go, five) appears in the upper field and 錢 (sen) in the lower field, both inscribed in bold kanji characters. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running the full circumference of the coin.
