| Obverse description | Central field features a coiled Imperial dragon in high relief, rendered in the traditional Japanese style with detailed scales, claws, and flowing whiskers, facing right with an open mouth. The dragon is enclosed within a dotted inner circle, with Japanese kanji characters arranged around the periphery reading 'Dai Nippon' (Great Japan) on the left and the Meiji reign year on the right. The denomination '5 SEN' is inscribed in Latin characters along the lower arc between the dotted border and the toothed outer rim. The overall composition is framed by a beaded inner border and a milled edge. |
