Obverse description The Austrian imperial eagle displayed in high relief, facing right, with wings spread wide and head crowned by a mural crown. The eagle's breast bears the Austrian escutcheon — a vertically striped shield with a horizontal bar — rendered in fine detail. The talons clutch a broken chain at left and a hammer at right, emblematic of the post-war republic's labour and liberation symbolism. The date appears in the lower field, integrated between the eagle's tail feathers.
