| Obverse description | A displayed double-headed eagle with haloed heads occupies the central field, its wings spread symmetrically and the Austrian shield — composed of alternating red and white horizontal bars — emblazoned on its breast. The eagle is rendered in a bold, stylized Art Deco manner characteristic of the interwar Austrian republic. The circular legend reads ÖSTERREICH in the upper arc and FÜNF SCHILLING in the lower arc, each separated by a small five-pointed star at either side. The design was modelled by Michael Powolny. |
