| Obverse description | A boldly rendered effigy of a lion's head facing right, occupying the majority of the coin's field, with a flowing, heavily detailed mane rendered in high relief. The Ge'ez legend 'ኢትዮጵያ' (Ethiopia) arcs along the upper periphery, while the Ethiopian calendar date '፲፱፻፷፱' (EE 1969, corresponding to 1977 AD) appears in the lower exergue. The design is characterised by a naturalistic and dynamic artistic treatment of the lion, a traditional symbol of Ethiopian sovereignty. |
