Comments

Propinsi Sumatera issued this note under emergency wartime authority during the Dutch military actions — the period Indonesians call the Agresi Militer Belanda. The central republican government in Java was under severe pressure, and outlying administrations were empowered to issue their own currency to keep local economies functioning. These provincial emissions were never intended as permanent instruments.

Redemption and destruction rates were high after unification, and surviving examples in any condition are genuinely uncommon relative to the central government issues of the same period.
