Reverse description A large numeral 5 dominates the centre of the field in a bold, reeded style. The country name SRI LANKA appears in Latin script to the right, with the Sinhala equivalent (ශ්‍රී ලංකා) arching across the top and the Tamil equivalent (இலங்கை) along the left. Below the central numeral, the denomination is inscribed in three languages: in Sinhala (රුපියල් පහයි) and Tamil (ஐந்து ரூபாய்) flanking the numeral, and FIVE RUPEES in Latin script beneath. The date 2003 appears in the exergue at the bottom, with a milled border encircling the entire design.
