| Additional information |
The Reserve Bank of India was established in 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act of 1934, partly modeled on the recommendations of the Hilton Young Commission of 1926. Its founding transferred monetary authority away from the British Indian government, which had managed currency directly through the Finance Department. The platinum jubilee issue in 2010 marked 75 years of that institutional continuity — through partition, the creation of two successor states, and the eventual severance of any formal link to the Crown.
