Obverse description The Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, depicted centrally with three lions passant atop an abacus bearing a Dharma Chakra flanked by a bull and a horse in relief. The state motto 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate) appears in Devanagari script immediately below the emblem. The denomination '5' is prominently rendered in large numerals at the base of the design, flanked by 'रूपये' in Devanagari to the left and 'RUPEES' in Latin to the right. The issuer name 'भारत' in Devanagari appears to the left and 'INDIA' in Latin to the right, arcing along the upper field. A decorative beaded border encircles the entire design.

Reverse description A three-quarter right-facing portrait bust of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the prominent Indian independence activist and social reformer, wearing a traditional Marathi cap (pagdi) and traditional attire with a shawl. The portrait occupies the central field in moderate relief. A bilingual circumferential legend in Devanagari script arcs around the upper portion of the coin reading 'लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक की १५० वी जयंती', while the Latin legend '150th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF LOKMANYA BAL GANGADHAR TILAK' arcs around the lower portion. The mint mark and year '2007' appear in the lower exergue beneath the portrait.
