Obverse description The Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, occupies the central field, depicted in high relief atop its abacus bearing the Dharma Chakra flanked by a horse and bull. The motto सत्यमेव जयते (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth Alone Triumphs') appears in Devanagari script immediately below the emblem. The country name भारत in Devanagari curves along the left periphery and INDIA in Latin script along the right periphery. The denomination ₹ 5, incorporating the Indian Rupee symbol, is prominently struck in the lower field.
