Obverse description Intaglio portrait of King George V in uniform, set within an ornate octagonal medallion at right, rendered in fine engine-turned engraving. The Mauritius coat of arms with the motto STELLA CLAVISQUE MARIS INDICI appears at left, flanked by supportive figures. The denomination is expressed in a central cartouche in English, Tamil, and Hindi scripts, with the denomination numeral Rs 5 at lower left; the whole set against an intricate guilloche underprint in teal and orange.
