Obverse description The Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, depicted in the centre of the field atop its abacus bearing the Dharma Chakra flanked by a bull and horse in relief. The state motto 'Satyameva Jayate' (Truth Alone Triumphs) is inscribed in Devanagari script below the capital. The denomination numeral '5' appears prominently in the lower field, with 'RUPEES' to the right in Latin script and 'रूपये' in Devanagari to the left. The legends 'भारत' and 'INDIA' arc along the upper periphery left and right respectively, and the entire design is bordered by a scalloped or beaded rim.
