Obverse description Central field occupied by the traditional Nepalese royal cipher of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, rendered as a decorative panelled cartouche subdivided into compartments containing the king's name and titles in Devanagari script. The royal name reads श्री श्री श्री ५ बीरेन्द्र वीर विक्रम शाह देव, arranged across the registers of the cartouche. The Bikram Sambat date २०४७ (VS 2047) appears at the base of the cartouche. The entire design is surrounded by a continuous beaded border.

Reverse description Central device comprises the FAO emblem — a circular logo depicting a stylised sheaf of wheat — surrounded by the Latin legend WORLD FOOD DAY and the date 16-10-1990, with NEPAL inscribed below. The denomination in Devanagari numerals and script appears beneath the FAO emblem. A bilingual circular legend in Devanagari and Latin encircles the design, reading in part FOOD FOR THE FUTURE and its Devanagari equivalent. The entire reverse is framed by a continuous beaded border.
