Ceylon's first post-independence central bank was established only in 1950, and the early Bradbury Wilkinson series — of which this is part — represented the institution's initial attempt to produce a cohesive currency identity distinct from the colonial Currency Board notes that preceded it. Bradbury Wilkinson's New Malden facility handled the bulk of Commonwealth note production through this period, and the quality of intaglio work on this series reflects that relationship.

Pick 54 is the second signature variety for the 5 Rupee denomination under the Central Bank. Worth verifying the specific governor signature against the catalog record, as the variants are priced differently and frequently misattributed.
