Crimea has no recognized independent monetary authority, and this piece was never issued by any legitimate governing body — it is a fantasy strike produced by private minters capitalizing on the political chaos surrounding the March 2014 referendum, whose legitimacy was rejected by the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 68/262. Dozens of similar fantasy issues flooded the collector market in the months following annexation, most originating from Russian private mints.
