Additional information

Elizabeth's gold coinage of the 1750s was produced at the St. Petersburg Mint during a period when Russia was entering the Seven Years' War, and imperial expenditure on the military was reshaping the mint's output priorities. The SPB mintmark distinguishes these from Moscow-struck pieces, though St. Petersburg had by this decade become the dominant facility for gold.

The .917 fineness was consistent with the zolotnik standard codified under Peter I and maintained through Elizabeth's reign without significant debasement — unusual given the fiscal pressures of the period.
