| Additional information |
Transnistria — the narrow strip of land between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border — declared independence from Moldova in 1990 but remains unrecognized by any United Nations member state. The Transnistrian Republican Bank nonetheless operates a full central banking function, issuing currency and commemorative pieces that circulate domestically despite having no standing in international monetary law. This silver issue is part of a broader wildlife series the bank produced in the mid-2000s, largely targeting the collector export market since hard currency from recognized mints was far more practical for everyday use.
