The Bukhara Soviet People's Republic was a short-lived Soviet satellite state established after the Red Army's destruction of the Bukharan Emirate in September 1920. It lasted barely three years before being absorbed into the Uzbek SSR in 1924, and its currency issues reflect that compressed, chaotic lifespan — printed under conditions of acute material shortage with little infrastructure and no established central bank tradition to draw on.
The S-prefix in the Pick reference marks this as a local or emergency issue rather than a nationally recognized state emission. Surviving examples in any grade are genuinely uncommon; the issuing authority was dissolved before most of its paper could circulate widely.
