Armavir was a railhead town in the Kuban region that briefly fell under the control of various competing factions during the Russian Civil War. The local branch of the State Bank issued its own emergency obligations in 1918 precisely because the collapse of central authority had severed reliable supply of Petrograd-issued currency — these notes are functionally scrip, kept alive by nothing more than local merchant confidence and the presence of an official stamp.
The Kuban region changed hands multiple times between Red and White forces that year, which means the window of practical circulation for these notes was narrow. Many survivors show evidence of overstamping or cancellation by subsequent administrations.
