Reverse description Central device depicts the state emblem of Ras al-Khaimah, comprising two crossed khanjar daggers superimposed between two flags with crossed poles. The emblem is encircled by a laurel or olive wreath. The dual dating in both the Islamic Hijri calendar and the Gregorian calendar — '١٣٨٩' and '١٩٦٩' respectively — is displayed within the design, reflecting the dual-calendar convention standard to Gulf emirate coinage of the period.

Additional information

Ras al-Khaimah issued a series of essai — trial or pattern — pieces in 1969 while still a British-protected sheikhdom, nearly two years before joining the UAE federation in 1972. Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, who ruled from 1948 until his death in 2010, lent his name to these pieces at a moment when the emirate was actively courting international collector markets as a revenue stream. Several Gulf sheikhdoms pursued this strategy aggressively in the late 1960s.

The KM#E3 designation confirms essai status — struck in limited numbers for distribution rather than circulation.
