Obverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms displayed centrally in the field, featuring the traditional quartered shield with the five escutcheons of Portugal and the castles of the border, surmounted by a crown. The design is rendered in a crude, hammered style typical of colonial Goan copper coinage of the period. The shield occupies the majority of the flan, with the surrounding field left plain.
