Obverse description The obverse features the crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms at center, prominently displaying the five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx pattern within a shield, encircled by the castles of the bordure. The crowned arms are rendered in a baroque style typical of the Josephine period. A circular legend in Latin runs along the lower periphery of the coin, with the inscription framed by the coin's milled border. The overall design is characteristic of Portuguese colonial copper coinage of the mid-eighteenth century.
