Obverse description To the right, an intaglio-engraved vignette set within a ruled rectangular frame presents an allegorical youth's head rendered in three-quarter profile, executed in a classical idealized style. The centre of the note carries the denomination in large Fraktur script reading 'Fünf Reichsmark', surmounted by the title 'Reichsbanknote', all set against a fine guilloche underprint. To the lower left, a large numeral '5' and a circular seal bearing the Reichsbank eagle with swastika anchor the composition, with the issuance text and a manuscript facsimile signature of the Reichsbank president below.
Obverse lettering Reichsbanknote Fünf Reichsmark Ausgegeben auf Grund des Gesetzes über die Deutsche Reichsbank vom 15. Juni 1939. Berlin, den 1. August 1942. Der Präsident der Deutschen Reichsbank
(Translation: Reichsbank note Five Reichsmarks Issued under the Law on the German Reichsbank of June 15, 1939. Berlin, August 1, 1942. The President of the German Reichsbank)
Reverse description The central vignette presents an intaglio view of the Brunswick Lion monument on its tall column set before the Romanesque facade of Brunswick Cathedral (Dom St. Blasii), framed within a ruled border. Flanking the central scene on either side are full-length standing figures of a peasant woman at left and a male worker at right, rendered in a monumental realist style against a fine guilloche background in brown and olive tones. The denomination numeral '5' appears in each corner, with the legends 'Reichsmark' above and 'Reichsbanknote' below the central vignette.
