The Tsonga-language inscription "Afrika Dzonga" — one of eleven official languages rotated across South Africa's post-apartheid coinage — reflects the 1996 constitution's deliberate effort to give each of the country's recognized languages a presence on circulating currency. The rotation cycle means any given language appears only periodically, making certain year-language pairings harder to source than their mintage figures might suggest.
