Obverse description Central vignette consists of a large guilloche rosette bearing the numeral 5, flanked by two ornate rosette underprints on a pale green and orange tint. The pre-Columbian Vasija de Uaxactún — a carved tripod ceramic vessel — appears as an intaglio vignette at right, captioned accordingly. Bank title BANCO DE GUATEMALA and subtitle GUATEMALA, CENTRO AMERICA are inscribed at top, with CINCO QUETZALES in a banner at bottom and three manuscript signatures below the central design.

Reverse description The central vignette presents a detailed intaglio battle scene titled Choque de las Culturas Maya y Española, portraying the clash between Spanish conquistadors and Maya warriors rendered in fine engraved line work. A guilloche numeral 5 medallion occupies the left panel, while a blank oval watermark area is positioned at right. The bank title BANCO DE GUATEMALA runs along the top border, with 5 · CINCO QUETZALES · 5 along the bottom, all within an ornate scalloped frame.
