Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate tughra (royal cipher) of the Mahdist ruler Abdullah ibn Muhammad, rendered in flowing calligraphic Arabic script. Below the tughra, the denomination and currency designation appear in two lines of Arabic text. The entire design is enclosed within a border composed of alternating crescents, with a beaded inner ring framing the central motifs.
