Obverse description The central field is dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Abdulaziz, rendered in high relief in the classical Ottoman calligraphic tradition. A stylised flowering branch with blossoms and foliage extends to the right of the tughra. The denomination in Arabic numerals and script appears in the lower field beneath the tughra. The design is enclosed by a finely executed beaded rim.

Reverse description The reverse presents three lines of bold Arabic calligraphic inscription within an unadorned field. The uppermost line bears the regnal year numeral (١٠, denoting the 10th regnal year of Sultan Abdulaziz), followed by the mint name ضرب في مصر ('Struck in Egypt'). Below a horizontal dividing line, the accession year in the Hijri calendar, ١٢٧٧ (AH 1277), is prominently inscribed. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded rim.
