Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, rendered in the classic Ottoman style with its characteristic upward projecting shafts (tuğ) and interlaced loops. A decorative floral ornament (flower) is positioned to the right of the tughra. The denomination numeral '٥' (5) appears in the lower field below the tughra. The coin is bordered by a finely beaded inner circle running along the rim.
