| Obverse description | Central field features a stylised tughra device, flanked by the country name 'Arab Republic of Egypt' rendered in Arabic naskh script. Below the tughra, the denomination '5 Qirsh' is inscribed in Arabic numerals and text. Both the Hijri year (1404) and the Gregorian year (1984) appear in Arabic numerals, completing the legend. The design is framed by a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Egypt's aluminium bronze coinage of the early 1980s was introduced partly in response to chronic metal shortages and the economic strain following the 1973 war and subsequent military expenditures. The qirsh denominations were workhorses of everyday commerce in a period when inflation was steadily eroding purchasing power — by the mid-1980s, five qirsh bought less each year than the last.
The dual MHC references (340 and 341) suggest a die or edge variety exists within this date, though documentation in major catalogs remains thin.
