Obverse description Central device depicts the shrine of Hazrat Ali (the Blue Mosque of Mazar-e Sharif), rendered in architectural detail with a domed central structure, flanked by minarets, an arched gateway, and steps at the base. Two national flags are crossed behind the mosque at either side. The entire device is set against a radiant sunburst field. Flanking the central motif are two wheat ears tied with ribbons, forming an open wreath. The Afghan solar year date 1316 appears below the mosque in Eastern Arabic numerals, with the legend Afghanistan (افغانستان) inscribed on a ribbon banner at the base.
