Reverse description An entirely typographic design composed of concentric decorative borders of beading and scalloped ornamental bands enclosing a central cartouche. Within the central field the denomination legend 'VALUE / FIVE / POUNDS' is inscribed in three lines with a foliate ornament above and below. The circular outer legend reads 'WEIGHT. 1 OZ: 8 DWT: 4 GRS:' in the upper arc and '22 CARATS.' along the lower arc, with rosette stops as dividers. The whole is bounded by a prominent outer beaded rim consistent with the obverse.
