The Orabi Revolution of 1879–1882 was Egypt's first significant nationalist uprising against Khedival autocracy and European financial control, led by Colonel Ahmed Orabi demanding constitutional government and an end to foreign interference. Britain crushed it at the Battle of Tel el-Kebir in September 1882, after which Orabi was exiled to Ceylon. Egypt issued this commemorative nearly a century later, during Sadat's presidency — a period when reclaiming nationalist narratives served pointed political purposes, particularly in the wake of the Camp David Accords and the backlash they generated domestically.
The .875 fineness places this squarely in Egypt's established 21-karat commemorative gold tradition.
