Obverse description Central device depicting a raised map of the African continent set within a double circular border ornamented with a ring of beads. A scrolled ribbon banner at the base bears the bilingual legend 'OUA OAU' flanking a decorative chain-link motif. The outer legend reads 'SUMMIT MEETING KHARTOUM' in Latin characters along the upper periphery, while the lower periphery carries the Arabic inscription 'مؤتمر القمة الأفريقية الخرطوم'. Foliate branch ornaments flank the central device, and the entire design is contained within a beaded border, commemorating the Organisation of African Unity Summit held in Khartoum.

Reverse description Plain, unadorned field bearing the single incuse legend 'PRUEBA' (Spanish for 'trial' or 'proof') applied horizontally across the centre of the die, indicating the pattern or trial status of this piece. The field shows no additional design elements, devices, or secondary inscriptions, consistent with a reverse used solely to identify the piece as a pattern trial strike. The rim is defined by a narrow raised border, and the overall surface exhibits the characteristics of a specimen struck for approval purposes.

Additional information

The Organisation of African Unity held its 1978 summit in Khartoum, and Sudan issued this piece to mark the occasion. "Prueba" denotes a Spanish-language proof or pattern designation, almost certainly reflecting the involvement of a Spanish or Latin American mint in the production — most probably the Casa de Moneda de Madrid or a related contractor working African government commissions during this period.

The uncertainty over composition — silver or aluminium — is itself telling. Pattern pieces of this type were often struck in multiple materials for approval, with only one advancing to any sanctioned issue.
