| Obverse description | The Sudanese national emblem, a secretary bird displayed with wings spread, is prominently centered in the field, bearing a shield on its breast and a ribbon below inscribed with the Arabic legend of the Republic of Sudan. The denomination appears flanked on either side of the eagle: Arabic numeral and legend '٥ جنيهات' to the left and Latin '5 Ls.' to the right. The date is rendered in both Arabic-Indic (١٣٩٨) and Western (1978) numerals along the lower rim, separated by the eagle's talons.
