Reverse description The reverse depicts a composite allegorical scene celebrating scientific and industrial research. To the left, an industrial motif features a large mechanical gear and drill press with radiating sunbeams rising behind factory buildings and bar graph elements, symbolising industry and progress. To the right, a seated figure of the ancient Egyptian god Thoth, ibis-headed and shown in profile, is depicted writing on a tablet, representing knowledge and scholarship. A wheat ear rises to the right behind Thoth. Across the lower portion of the field, a banner cartouche bears the Arabic legend 'The National Research Centre' above a second ribbon inscribed '3rd of March'. A small mint mark is visible to the lower left of the central scene.
