Obverse description The obverse is entirely inscriptional in character, featuring the Arabic legend 'جمهُوريّة مِصرَ العَربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) arranged in an arc along the upper periphery, with the denomination 'خمسة جنيهات' (Five Pounds) prominently displayed in large calligraphic script at the centre of the field. The dual dates AH 1396 and AD 1976 are inscribed in Arabic-Indic numerals at the lower left and lower right respectively, flanking an ornamental arabesque cartouche at the base. The entire design is framed by a fine reeded border, with the lettering executed in relief against a smooth, unadorned field.
