Additional information

The "Countdown" subseries was issued annually from 2010 through 2012, marking the years remaining until London hosted its third Olympic Games — a distinction no other city had held at the time. This second installment preceded the Games by two years. Piedfort strikes, double the thickness of standard issues, have been a Royal Mint specialty since their modern revival in 1982, produced in deliberately limited numbers alongside standard proof versions.
