Reverse description The reverse, engraved by Clive Duncan, depicts a dramatic scene of tall-masted sailing warships engaged in battle, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar fought on 21 October 1805. Two principal men-of-war are shown at close quarters amid billowing sails and churning waves, rendered with exceptional sculptural relief against a burnished background. The commemorative dates ·1805· and ·2005· are inscribed along the left and right inner margins respectively, flanking the ships. The word ·TRAFALGAR· is boldly lettered along the lower arc, with the engraver's initials CD incorporated discreetly into the design. The composition conveys the power and chaos of naval combat in a richly detailed proof finish.
