| Obverse description | The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Jody Clark, occupies the centre of the obverse, depicting the monarch in right-facing profile wearing the George IV State Diadem and a drop earring. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and crown jewels, characteristic of the proof striking. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2020, distributed around the periphery, with the engraver's initials J.C. incuse below the bust truncation. |

Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, this coin was released on 8 May 2020 — exactly 75 years after Churchill's broadcast and the crowds that packed central London in 1945. The timing proved ironic: the COVID-19 lockdown meant the anniversary passed almost entirely without public ceremony, the commemorative striking a quiet counterpoint to the celebrations it was designed to accompany.
