Additional information

Jersey issued this piece as part of a broader commemorative program marking the centenary of the First World War's end in November 1918. The island's relationship to that conflict was direct and costly — Jersey raised volunteer battalions attached to the Royal Irish Rifles and later the Hampshire Regiment, suffering casualties well out of proportion to its small population. Occupation by German forces in the Second World War would later give the island a second chapter of wartime memory, but that's a different century entirely.

Struck in 22-carat gold at 39.94 grams, this falls into the heavier proof format favored by the Royal Mint's contract production for Crown Dependencies during this period.
