Reverse description The reverse carries two substantial intaglio heraldic vignettes set against a fine guilloche ground. At left, the arms of the East India Company are rendered with two lion supporters flanking a quartered shield surmounted by a rampant lion crest, with flanking flags and a motto ribbon below; at right, the colonial seal of Saint Helena presents a cartouche enclosing a sailing ship navigating rocky coastal waters. The £5 denomination numeral appears to the left of the seal, with a large decorative guilloche '5' element occupying the far right.
Reverse lettering AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIÆ £5
(Translation: Under the Auspices of the King and the Senate of England)
