Struck to mark the 125th anniversary of Churchill's birth, this Alderney issue carries particular weight given the island's direct experience of German occupation from 1940 to 1945 — the only British territory to be occupied during the war Churchill led. Most of Alderney's civilian population had been evacuated just before the Germans arrived, and the island was subsequently used as a forced labor site.
The coin was produced by the Royal Mint on behalf of the States of Alderney under the Crown Dependency arrangement. KM#20 is the silver proof; a cupro-nickel circulation strike was issued simultaneously.
