Additional information

John Fisher's rehabilitation as a naval strategist took most of the twentieth century. Twice First Sea Lord, he forced through the HMS Dreadnought program against fierce Admiralty resistance, rendering every existing battleship obsolete overnight in 1906 — including those of Britain's own allies. His second tenure ended in resignation over the Dardanelles campaign in 1915, a dispute with Churchill that left his reputation contested for decades.

Jersey's silver proof issues of this period were struck by the Royal Mint under contract, with the .925 flan sourced and finished to proof standard before despatch to the issuing authority.
