Additional information

Robert Falcon Scott reached the South Pole on 17 January 1912, only to find Roald Amundsen's Norwegian flag already planted there. The entire five-man party perished on the return march, with Scott's final diary entry dated 29 March 1912. Guernsey issued this piece as part of a broader wave of British commemoratives tied to polar exploration anniversaries, a category that became commercially crowded in the 2000s.

The multi-year striking window of 2006–2009 reflects distributor demand rather than any single commemorative occasion.
