Reverse description Three-quarter facing bust of King Richard III, depicted in late medieval court attire including a jewelled cap badge, richly ornamented collar, and embroidered garments, based on a known contemporary portrait. To the left of the effigy appears a heraldic white rose of York in low relief, and to the right the quartered royal arms of England and France displayed on a shield. The legend RICHARD III r. 1483 - 1485 curves along the upper periphery, with the denomination FIVE POUNDS inscribed along the lower border. The design is the work of engraver David Cornell.
