Part of Jersey's broader "Revolution to Restoration" commemorative program, this issue marks Cromwell's role in the only period of republican government England has known — the Interregnum of 1649 to 1660. Jersey's own relationship with that period was notably hostile: the island remained a Royalist stronghold throughout the Civil War, sheltering the future Charles II during his exile. Issuing a coin honoring Cromwell from Jersey carries a quiet historical irony that the series does not advertise.
