Alderney's commemorative crown series is issued under Crown Dependency authority but carries no circulation mandate — these pieces are struck for the collector market and rarely if ever see the Channel Islands. The Royal Mint produces them under contract, which means the technical execution is consistent, but the issues themselves are essentially licensed souvenirs with legal tender status on an island of fewer than 2,000 people.
Remembrance Day commemoratives proliferated sharply after 2010 as mint revenues from circulation coinage declined across the UK dependencies. KM#248 is one of several issued that year on the theme.
