Additional information

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, founded in 1824, operates entirely on voluntary donations — it receives no government funding. The Isle of Man Treasury's commemorative program in the late 1990s frequently targeted British charitable institutions as subject matter, partly because such themes sold well to mainland collectors through the Bradford Exchange and similar distributors. Virenium, a copper-nickel-zinc alloy proprietary to Pobjoy Mint, was the standard vehicle for these issues.
